As an AI research engineer, you are designing, developing, and testing innovative AI system architectures that integrate knowledge graphs and language-based technologies. You are working closely with industry partners to deliver proofs of concept and prototypes that demonstrate the practical potential of Industry 4.0 solutions. You are driving collaborative research, guiding junior team members, and defining new projects that connect advanced research with real industrial needs.

As a Research Engineer – Knowledge Graphs & Language-Based AI, you will contribute to innovative Industry 4.0 projects that help manufacturing companies tackle their technological challenges and strengthen their competitiveness.

Key responsibilities

• In this role, you will:

  • Develop and test Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines for various types of data sources.

  • Design agentic, knowledge-supported LLM architectures tailored to different stakeholders.

  • Build and maintain semantic ontologies.

  • Lead and collaborate within a multidisciplinary research team.

  • Coach and share knowledge with junior team members.

  • Define research and B2B projects related to knowledge graphs and language-based AI in collaboration with industry partners and fellow researchers.

  Requirements
  What we’re looking for:

  • PhD in Engineering or Computer Science / Informatics, with a strong focus on Information and Communication Technologies.

  • Proven experience in at least one relevant project that aligns with the research domains of this position.

  • Clear motivation and genuine interest in the proposed assignment.

  • A research mindset focused on technology and delivering results for the high-tech industry.

  • Strong professional communication skills in Dutch and English, both written and spoken.

  • Experience in mentoring and collaborating with junior colleagues.
