Automation Engineer - Senior

VeroTech is looking for an experienced Automation Engineer to lead our automation projects. Join us to pioneer process installations and drive transformative developments in automation technology.

About the role

As a Senior Automation Engineer, you lead automation initiatives across large-scale projects, with a primary focus on process installations.. You develop, expand, and migrate PLC and SCADA/MES systems from Siemens WinCC to Ignition, autonomously program using TIA Portal and SCL, and commission installations. Your role also involves guiding complex renovations and installations, diagnosing and resolving automation issues, and providing functional leadership and mentoring for junior engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Lead automation activities within large-scale industrial process projects (≈98% process installations).

• Develop, expand, and migrate PLC and SCADA/MES systems (e.g. Siemens WinCC → Ignition).

• Independently program and commission automation systems using Siemens TIA Portal and SCL.

• Supervise and coordinate complex installations and modifications, including hydro tests, rack towers, laboratory furnaces, pyro ovens, and demo plants.

• Diagnose and resolve complex automation and control issues.

• Provide functional leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.

• Write, maintain, and integrate standards and documentation in line with company policies.

• Contribute actively to PLC-level cybersecurity, including password management and certificate implementation.

• Support the selection and implementation of new SCADA/MES solutions.

What we're looking for

We are seeking a candidate with a Bachelor’s degree in Electromechanics, specializing in Process Automation, or equivalent experience, along with 7–10 years of experience as an Automation Engineer in a similar environment.

- Proficient in Siemens equipment, TIA Portal, and SCL programming language.

- Experience with Siemens WinCC SCADA and Ignition migration.

- Knowledge of Sepasoft Batch Sequencer is a plus.

- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of electrical systems, instrumentation, industrial networks, and automation hardware/software.

- Thorough understanding of ISA-88 batch structures and ISA-95 standards.

- Cybersecurity awareness at the PLC level.

- Native or bilingual proficiency in Dutch and excellent English skills.
