Project Engineer Telecom

About the role

The Telecom Service actively contributes to the definition, design, and execution support of the telecom part of electrical infrastructure projects (380, 220, 150, 70 and 36 kV), where high-voltage substations are built, extended, or upgraded.

As Project Engineer, you will manage around 20 projects simultaneously and take ownership of the telecom scope from concept to commissioning and administrative closure.

Key responsibilities

• Define, study, and design the telecom part of infrastructure projects.

• Translate project requirements into concrete telecom needs and feasible solutions.

• Draft Telecom Project Notes as a basis for procurement and implementation.

• Support the design team with detailed engineering (plans for construction and operations).

• Assist overall project leaders during the construction and commissioning phases.

• Provide budget estimates and feasibility studies.

• Collaborate closely with telecom infrastructure managers and multidisciplinary teams.

• Contribute to new telecom concepts, framework agreements, pilot projects, and validation of telecom equipment and tools used in the Belgian grid.

• Work in close alignment with the department responsible for the telecom backbone network.

What we're looking for

The ideal candidate has the following experience:

• Master’s degree in Electrical or Electromechanical Engineering (Civil or Industrial).

• At least a first professional experience in a Technical environment/role.

• Strong sense of responsibility and excellent organizational skills.

• Ability to maintain oversight of multiple projects running in parallel.

• Proactive, assertive communicator with a customer-oriented mindset, strong team spirit, and creativity.

• Experience with (telecom) projects is a strong asset.

• Fluent in English and professional proficiency in French or Dutch.
