About the role

As a Research Engineer Powertrain, you’ll play a key role in developing innovative electric and hybrid drive systems for vehicles. With your expertise in powertrain technology, you’ll contribute directly to the design and redesign of complex system architectures. You’ll combine deep technical knowledge with a broad systems approach, working on projects that are shaping the future of mobility.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll actively contribute to:

• Analyzing and translating the requirements of industrial clients.

• Designing and optimizing system architectures for electric and hybrid powertrains.

• Simulating drive and load cycles for complete drivetrains.

• Developing, implementing, and testing powertrain control functionalities.

• Improving energy flow within powertrains from a system-level perspective.

• Selecting and sizing energy storage systems (e.g., batteries, supercapacitors).

• Defining and specifying validation tests.

• Leading and inspiring a research team and collaborating closely with colleagues.

Who are we looking for?

We're looking for a Research Engineer with a strong technical background and a passion for innovation. You’ll need:

• A PhD in Engineering—ideally in automotive or mechatronics engineering.

• At least one relevant project (academic or professional) where you demonstrated strong technical skills.

• A research-driven mindset, with a passion for technology and delivering top-level results.

• Experience with the Matlab–Simulink–SimScape toolchain and the ability to apply it effectively.

• Strong communication skills in both Dutch and English.

• Experience guiding and working with junior colleagues—you enjoy sharing your knowledge

• The ability to collaborate with industrial partners and translate their needs into tangible results
