Smals is looking for an experienced Software Architect to help design and evolve a technical platform using Java 17+, SpringBoot, PostgreSQL, and Angular 18+. This position involves technical coaching, architecture design, and participation in both strategic and technical decision-making.

About the role

You will join a dynamic team to design and enhance a modern platform built on robust technologies. The architecture follows a hexagonal approach (Ports & Adapters) and Domain Driven Design (DDD) principles. You will play a key role in guiding technical decisions, mentoring developers, and modeling scalable, maintainable systems.

Key responsibilities

• Define and evolve the software architecture for Java / SpringBoot applications

• Implement Hexagonal Architecture and apply Domain Driven Design (DDD)

• Coach developers and support their technical growth

• Participate in strategic and technical discussions

• Document architecture using Archimate or equivalent modeling tools

• Collaborate with clients as part of the UHMEP project

What we’re looking for

• We’re seeking a motivated technical leader with a strong architecture mindset. Here’s what we need:

  • Proven experience in Java 17+, SpringBoot, PostgreSQL, Angular (v18+)

  • Strong understanding of Hexagonal Architecture and DDD

  • Solid background in technical coaching / mentoring

  • Ability to model and document architecture (Archimate or similar)

  • Interest or knowledge in WebComponents is a plus

  • Languages: Fluent in French, Dutch, and English
